This is a manipulated section of a famous piece by Edward Elgar. The original idea came from a half remembered arpeggio that forms the core movement to the piece, which sprung up as I walked by Dyke Road last week. The sun was warm already by 11am, and the gentle sense of warm air rising from the paving as I walked up the west side of the road, where it passes St Nicholas’ Church and park, had me thinking of the pastoral scenes that form the backdrop to war, as described by the original. I think this rendition holds the promise of the land intact, while diminishing the threat and sadness of the original piece.
